EU Millions to Boost Medicon Valley into a World-Class Life science Region
Invest in Skåne and the cluster organisation Medicon Valley Alliance have been granted DKK 14.5 million from the EU Interreg IV.
A Programme for a new project designed to turn the Swedish-Danish life science cluster Medicon Valley into a world-class life science region.
The EU funds will be used to develop a common vision for the Medicon Valley based on future strongholds, beacons, within which the region’s stakeholders have the skills and abilities to provide unique, world-class research environments. These strongholds will be used for branding of Medicon Valley to create international attention and improve the region’s attractiveness. The Life Science Ambassador Program will play an important role in this project by contributing to the international marketing and branding of Medicon Valley and its Beacons.
– The project will strengthen and enhance both the regional and international collaboration and improve the growth of the companies within the life science sector in Medicon Valley. It will also create a common vision for Medicon Valley to enhance international marketing and improve our international relations, business opportunities and partnerships, says Lovisa Sunesson, Project Manager at Invest in Skåne.
The project is highly relevant considering the increasing competitive pressure in the industry with a growing number of companies, both on the Swedish and the Danish side, that are moving their R&D activities away from Medicon Valley.
– There are about 250 life science clusters worldwide. In the fierce global competition, we are registering that Medicon Valley is losing ground in comparison with other life science regions. We have to change our mindsets and run a different race by identifying future strongholds and develop these in order to compete and be attractive internationally, says Peter Nordström, Senior Project Manager at Medicon Valley Alliance.
