Why is your company called Humvia?
Humvia comes from the founders’ initials HUM plus the Latin word for way, VIA. In Swedish, HUM means ‘knowing your stuff’ and can also relate to the word Human.
So, in short, Humvia facilitates and helps people and organisations utilise their knowledge and find the best way to achieve optimal outcomes.
Why did you write the book “MEDICAL AFFAIRS ONBOARDING: A Comprehensive Guide to Effective Integration”?
The reason for writing this book was that in many instances, you put a lot of effort into the recruitment process, and then at the time of the start, the person gets a standardised approach to onboarding and little tailoring to the skill sets and experience the person already has. Especially in medical affairs, where many individuals come straight into a medical affairs role from academia or clinical work and sometimes find it hard to move into an organisation with a very high commercial focus. On the other hand, you might have a very skilled and experienced person who needs to take part in basic introductions when they are ready to take on a more significant responsibility, much earlier. I have seen these situations on several occasions, where the consequence is that the person is underperforming or leaving early, making the effort of recruiting them in the first place worthless and at a high cost. In addition, I have onboarded numerous employees and worked closely with managers to ensure a good experience and start for their employees.
What do you see as the key bottleneck to the growth of the Medicon Valley life science cluster?
If I must choose, the key bottleneck is that so many are still doing the same thing, following the same template and formula for success. In an ever-changing world, innovation and disruptive thinking, collaboration, and partnerships are key, and we need to continue the process that started to excel during the pandemic and allow for a diverse set of voices to be heard. There are challenges when academia, healthcare society and industry in two countries and cultures come together. Still, there are plenty of benefits, which is why the Medicon Valley Alliance plays such a key role, bringing diverse thinking together, removing existing prejudice, and removing barriers.
