AI in Oncology Drug Development – From Research to Development
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the way oncology therapies are discovered, developed, and brought to patients. From identifying novel drug targets and designing new therapeutic candidates to analyzing complex biological data and enabling more precise patient stratification, AI is becoming an increasingly important part of the oncology innovation landscape.
Yet while the potential is significant, the path from research to real-world implementation remains complex. How can AI be successfully integrated into drug discovery and development workflows? What opportunities does it offer for improving decision-making, accelerating timelines, and increasing the probability of success? And what challenges related to data quality, governance, security, and regulatory expectations must organizations navigate along the way?
At this seminar, leading experts from industry and academia will share their perspectives on how AI is shaping the future of oncology drug development. Hisham Hamadeh is a senior biopharmaceutical executive and Global Head of Data, Digital & AI at Genmab. He leads the integration of enterprise digital technologies, data, security, and artificial intelligence, support drug discovery, clinical development, commercialization, and business operations. Before joining Genmab, Hisham held leadership and scientific roles at Amgen spanning research to commercialization. He began his career as a scientist at the National Institute of Sciences. Hisham holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from the American University of Beirut, a PhD in toxicology from the University of California, Irvine, and an MBA from the Wharton School. He serves as co-chair of BioNJ’s AI Committee and has participated in several key regulatory advisories on the use of AI. |

Birgitte Rønø joined Evaxion in 2017 and was appointed CSO in 2021 before being promoted to the joint role of CSO and COO in 2026. Dr. Rønø has more than 25 years’ experience in biopharmaceutical drug discovery from academia and industry and received her PhD in experimental oncology and immunology from National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA, and Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark. Prior to joining Evaxion, Birgitte Rønø served as a specialist, team leader and project manager at Novo Nordisk A/S, where she was leading early drug discovery projects, evaluating in-licensing opportunities, and supporting drug development projects with preclinical and biomarker expertise. |

Lars Juhl Jensen started his research career in Søren Brunak’s group at the Technical University of Denmark. After receiving his Ph.D. he was at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory working on text mining, integration of omics data, and network analysis. From 2009 he was a professor at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research at the University of Copenhagen. He has authored and co-authored more than 250 scientific publications. He was awarded the Lundbeck Foundation Talent Prize in 2003, “Break-through of the Year” in 2006, and the Lundbeck Foundation Prize for Young Scientists in 2010. He was a founder and scientific advisor of Intomics, which was acquired by ZS in 2022. Since 2025 he has worked as a director at ZS, leading the efforts to apply AI/ML techniques to molecular data. |

Thomas Binzer is CEO of NeoTargets, an oncology drug discovery company that combines AI-enabled in-silico analysis with biological validation to identify novel, biomarker-ready drug targets. Together with modality-specific partners, NeoTargets advances these targets into early drug discovery programs and compounds for partnering and out-licensing. Thomas has more than 20 years of leadership experience across R&D, product management, marketing and commercial roles in the life-science industry, including positions at Sophion Bioscience, Thermo Fisher Scientific and Agilent Technologies. He holds a PhD in Biology. |

Samuel Demharter is Senior Director, Head of Discovery Data Science at Genmab. He leads a cross-functional team at Genmab dedicated to early drug discovery. The teams spend their days at the intersection of biology and data, developing strategies and models to accelerate R&D.His goal is to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application, ensuring that technology serves a greater societal purpose. |

Wim Vos is a distinguished researcher and visionary leader in medical imaging, specialised in pneumology and oncology.Along with extensive executive experience, assuming roles such as Chief of Technology and Chief Commercial Officer, Wim Vos holds an MSC in aerospace engineering from TU Delft and a PhD in physics from the University of Antwerp, allowing him to make developments in advanced image analysis. As CEO of radiomics.bio, Wim Vos has revolutionised precision medicine by applying advanced image analysis techniques to oncology and continues to shape the future of advanced image analysis, unlocking new possibilities for precision medicine and transforming disease diagnosis and treatment in pneumology and oncology.

Jane Knöchel is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen, where she is building a research group focused on integrating mechanistic modelling with modern data-driven approaches. Her research develops innovative methodologies in pharmacometrics, including synthetic data generation, systems pharmacology modelling, and AI-enabled analysis, to improve the prediction and understanding of drug behaviour and treatment responses. Trained as an applied mathematician, she brings seven years of industry experience from both pharmaceutical companies and CROs, providing a strong translational perspective that bridges methodological innovation and real-world clinical impact. |
