Can Nordic Health Data be a Competitive Advantage in Life Science?

The Nordic countries are known for their population registries, clinical data and biobanks, and for years this has been seen as a defining strength of Medicon Valley. But is the advantage real, and is it turned into sufficient value for researchers, companies and patients? As the European Health Data Space (EHDS) takes shape and other countries build better access systems, the Nordic position may be strengthened, levelled out or overtaken.

This seminar brings together researchers, industry representatives and health data authorities from Denmark and Sweden to examine where Nordic data is truly unique, where time and value are lost in real-world evidence, clinical development and patient recruitment, and how the EHDS and national access models will change the conditions for cross-border projects. The discussions will focus on which barriers matter most, and which can be solved regionally rather than through national action.

Join us for a discussion on whether Nordic health data is being turned into a competitive advantage, with the aim of identifying areas where regional collaboration between Denmark and Sweden can create real value.

Speakers

Jesper Eriksen is Associate Director, Healthcare Data & Analytics at IQVIA Healthcare Nordics. He advises healthcare organizations, life science companies and public authorities on health data strategy, analytics, artificial intelligence, real-world evidence and digital transformation. Working across the Nordic region, his focus is on unlocking the value of health data to drive innovation, research and better healthcare outcomes. Jesper is actively engaged in discussions on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the role of Nordic collaboration in strengthening healthcare innovation, competitiveness and growth.
Lars Lindsköld is a Swedish health informatician and Past President of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI). He is Senior Adviser at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, Uppsala University, and a board member of SFMI, working on national and European research infrastructures for health data, including the Swedish OMOP initiative and the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). With a background in radiology and medical informatics, he focuses on semantic interoperability, information models and international health standards – what he calls the architecture of the in-between, where data becomes comparable, shareable and clinically meaningful. His publications include Designing and Using an Information Infrastructure in Radiology: Prepare – Share – Compare IT and the Swedish national report AI för bättre hälsa.
Stefan Jovinge, is a senior healthcare executive, physician, and researcher with extensive experience in driving innovation at scale. He serves as President of Research, Education, Development, and Innovation at Skåne University Hospital, where he leads strategic initiatives focused on patient-centered care, data-driven decision-making, and the responsible use of AI in healthcare. Trained as a cardiologist and intensivist, Stefan holds an MD and PhD from the Karolinska Institutet and has completed executive and leadership programs at Harvard, MIT, and the Stockholm School of Economics. He is also an adjunct professor at Stanford University and Lund University. He has a strong background in translational research and health system leadership, and he regularly advises public institutions and industry leaders on healthcare strategy, innovation, and life science collaboration.
Marianne Pilgaard is the chief executive officer for Trial Nation, a public-private non-profit association. Trial Nation support stakeholder engagement in clinical trial processes, strengthen clinical trials infrastructure and framework conditions, all with the purpose of increasing the number of clinical trials in pharmaceuticals and medtech solutions in Denmark. Prior to joining Trial Nation, she spent over twenty years in leadership roles with Novo Nordisk, a pharmaceutical multinational, in roles across the value chain and predominantly within different aspects of clinical research. During that time, she also contributed to the Swedish national public-private strategic innovation programme Swelife which has the goal to strengthen Life Science in Sweden and to improve public health. She is an active contributor to life science platforms in Denmark and internationally.
