Talks at the Square w. Eran Segal: Personalized medicine and foundation AI models

Personalized medicine based on deep human phenotyping

We are thrilled to welcome back Eran Segal, Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at the Weizmann Institute of Science, as the distinguished speaker for our upcoming Talks at the Square event on March 11.

Personalized Medicine Based on Deep Human Phenotyping

In this talk, Prof. Eran Segal will present the Human Phenotype Project. This groundbreaking initiative involves a vast cohort of over 25,000 participants, where deep-phenotyping techniques are applied for prospective longitudinal studies. The project aims to identify novel molecular markers through deep profiling of, for example, an individual’s medical history, lifestyle, nutritional habits, and gut and oral microbiome composition. Such in-depth investigative scientific work will contribute fundamentally to establishing novel predictive models that can revolutionize current disease prevention and treatment plans.
Prof. Eran Segal’s expertise lies in the intersection of AI, machine learning, computational biology, and the analysis of high-throughput genomic data. His research focuses on Microbiome, Nutrition, and Genetics, and their impact on health and disease is at the forefront of personalized medicine development.

About Prof. Eran Segal

With over 200 publications cited over 60,000 times, Prof. Segal has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Overton Prize from the International Society for Bioinformatics. His vast experience encompasses serving as a senior advisor to the government of Israel during the COVID-19 pandemic. His commitment to advancing personalized medicine based on large-scale and deeply phenotyped human cohorts is evident in his groundbreaking work.

Educational Background

Prof. Segal earned a B.Sc. in Computer Science summa cum laude from Tel-Aviv University in 1998 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Genetics from Stanford University in 2004. Prior to joining the Weizmann Institute, he held an independent research position at Rockefeller University, New York.

Join us on March 11 for an inspiring talk, where Prof. Eran Segal will share his insights, innovations, and the transformative potential of personalized medicine. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with a leading expert at the intersection of computational biology and healthcare.
