Denmark-based BioInnovation Institute (BII) is expanding its European CardioMetabolic Bridge to Munich and Berlin. Backed by up to DKK 450 million (around €60 million) from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the initiative aims to accelerate the translation of academic research into metabolic and cardiovascular diseases into drug development and biotech companies. Following the establishment of an innovation hub in London, the two German locations are its next European sites. Laboratory infrastructure is planned, but details will not be finalized for several months.
Both cities are among Germany’s leading life science hubs, with world-class universities, university hospitals, strong research communities and close connections to investors and biotech companies.
“With a presence in Munich and Berlin, BII can connect with more promising cardiometabolic research and help turn great science into new ventures and, ultimately, better treatments for patients. But this is about more than expanding into new locations. CardioMetabolic Bridge is a pan-European initiative. By connecting Munich and Berlin with our London base at Victoria House and our headquarters in Copenhagen, we want to break down silos and strengthen collaboration across Europe’s life science ecosystems” says BII CEO Jens Nielsen.
