Summing up most of the sessions at Medicon Valley Alliance Annual Summit 2026: “We need to stop pushing the snooze button in Europe”

Nov 3, 2026

“We need to stop pushing the snooze button in Europe” – a very fitting analogy from Thomas Senderovitz summing up most of the sessions at Medicon Valley Alliance Annual Summit 2026.

Under the headlines Global Challenges-  European Solutions-  Medicon Valley Contributions our Summit gathered 250 leaders for the life science industry, hospitals and universities.

Global challenges:
Cybersecurity and resilience are no longer primarily IT issues. They are fundament to healthcare, life science and our entire supply chain. From ransomware and medical devices to health data and AI. The vulnerabilities are real, and so is the need to strengthen our resilience.

European solutions
Europe remains a global life science leader, but we are losing ground. A discussion on the Biotech Act, competitiveness and regulation all pointed to the same challenge: How do we ensure that innovation, companies and capital stay and scale in Europe? This brought us to perhaps the most recurring word of the day:

CAPITAL
Europe has enough capital. Our pension funds manage significant assets so “Why don’t pension funds invest more in Europe and how do we change that?”  We have the capital in Europe and significant amounts in pension funds – but having regulation nationally or on EU level  – that for instances tax investments in Europe higher than if we invest in the US – is not conducive for getting more investments into or staying in Europe. As Nigel Govett put it – “we used to say that China imitates and Europe regulates. Today China innovates. Perhaps Europe needs to start deregulating to some extend”

On behalf of both MVA team and MVA Board of Directors MVA CEO Anette Steenberg would like to thank all our outstanding speakers, engaged members and guests, as highlighted in todays LinkedIn Post
