Women’s health initiative secures landmark EU funding – Interview with MVA CEO Anette Steenberg in BioStock

Jun 23, 2026

For the first time, EU Interreg has awarded funding to a project dedicated specifically to women’s health. The grant, secured by a Nordic partnership led by Medicon Valley Alliance, will support the commercialisation of Nordic SMEs within the women’s health sector. In today´s interview published in BioStock project lead Anette Steenberg, CEO of Medicon Valley Alliance, describes it as a breakthrough moment for the field.

A Nordic partnership spanning Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland has been awarded EU Interreg funding for the project ”Commercialisation of Nordic SMEs within Women’s Health”. The aim is to help Nordic women’s health companies transition from research into innovation and commercialisation through five support areas; regulatory, clinical, market access, investor readiness, and cross-Nordic collaboration.

The award follows three years of advocacy, partnership-building and waiting for EU Interreg’s innovation funds to reopen. It builds on work that began in 2022, when Medicon Valley Alliance launched its women’s health focus and a series of network seminars aimed at putting the field on the political, research and business agenda across the Nordics.

Apart from MVA the core project partners are:
DTU – Technical University of Denmark (DK)
SmiLe Venture Hub (SE)
and
The Life Science Cluster (NO)
