1) What is the key relevance of your patented technology for digital pathology tissue
Our technology and solution deliver high quality tissue images that enable researchers in the field of for example digital pathology, drug development and drug discovery to see/detect lower amounts of biomarkers in a tissue sample and/or detect small differences in biomarker expression. The former can be important when for example assessing a cancer tumor, while the latter can be important for example when looking for the effect of new drug candidates or the effect of a treatment. With our solution we have the vehicle to get improved quantification and localization of the biomarkers compared to for example classical immunohistochemistry.
2) You have recently published a White Paper with the headline “A Novel Tool for Immunohistochemistry: SCIZYS by Lumito”. Why did you consider that a valuable contribution to the field?
Rather than a contribution to the field, I would say it is a must for us. As a relatively small company, new to the market, and with a new technology, we need to show high-quality data, prove our statements and our “right to exist.” This is an essential part of our go-to-market strategy and early commercialization phase. By publishing the white paper, we shared data on the outstanding and unique properties of our UCNP-based immunohistochemistry labels and SCIZYS system as well as data on the superior stability, high sensitivity and foundation for biomarker quantification.
3) As a Lund-based Swedish company, how do you perceive the idea and vision of an integrated Swedish-Danish life science cluster?
I see several upsides of such a cluster, also as I worked 10 years in Denmark before joining Lumito in August this year. To interact within one country is not easy, adding a second country to the mix makes it even more difficult. A cross-border life science cluster is an effective and vital means to enable networking and learning sessions, facilitate connection, interaction and collaboration between key players. All of this is needed to create and sustain regional growth. We need to ensure continued interaction between academia, smaller companies, innovation centers, and big, more established companies in the entire region. Another example, where a cross-border cluster is important is in the “war for talents”. I believe the teams are key to success and that we need to work together on talent attraction.
