Int. women’s day 2026 special: Medicon Valley Alliance chairman column in Nordic Life Science Magazine

Mar 9, 2026

In his recently published chairman column “Women´s health – a new Nordic Stronghold” in Nordic Life Science Magazine, Medicon Valley Alliance chairman, Niels Abel Bonde argues that for a life science cluster the size of Medicon Valley the trick will be to specialize, focus our efforts, and develop selected strongholds based on existing competences, expertise and technology – and that women´s health is one exceptionally promising area where the Nordics already has a head start.

As you might remember the prime minister of Denmark explicitly highlighted this issue in her traditional televised New Year’s speech, and justified the recent decision to invest DKK 160 million (EUR 21.5 million) to launch a national center dedicated to raising our knowledge of women’s health.

So we are heading in the right direction, and if we embrace the Swedish part of the Medicon Valley region, we have the critical mass of expertise and experience to make a difference on the European level too.

Enjoy the reading, and if we succeeded in making you curious, maybe you will also find the upcoming MVA Women´s Health Network meeting  “Autoimmune Diseases: What Do We Know About Gender Differences” 17th of March in Malmö time well spent.
