When EU-Interreg funding supports the building of knowledge and businesses

In 1997, EU-Interreg wanted to investigate the potential to increase life science cooperation across the Danish-Swedish border. The project laid the foundation for Medicon Valley Alliance (MVA), which has now for more than 25 years strengthened knowledge sharing and innovation within several disease areas.

For a decade MVA has participated in projects, which with combined funding of EUR 46 million have enabled close collaboration among the participating hospitals, universities and companies in the Øresund Region, to:

  • Better understand and prevent involuntary childlessness, as well as optimize fertility treatment.
  • Accelerate the development of therapies for the prevention and cure of type 1 diabetes.
  • Better utilize large and specialized research infrastructures to look deep into the human body.
  • Shed light on the region’s talent pool and strengths within the microbiome area and attract companies on that basis.

In partnership with the funding partner Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak (ÖKS), MVA facilitates a debate at Folkemødet 2023. We have gathered a strong panel to discuss how innovation projects can continue to attract, grow and plant the seeds for new businesses!

  • Anette Steenberg, CEO, Medicon Valley Alliance
  • Finn Kristensen, Project Director, DiaUnion
  • Jakob Øster, Project Manager and HALRIC Ambassador – Rigshospitalet
  • Magnus Schönning, Program Director, Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak
  • Morten Albrectsen, CEO, FluoGuide A/S
  • Moderator: Keld Broksø, Journalist & co-editor of the Øresund media Rapidus

Folkemødet is Denmark’s democratic festival held annually on the island of Bornholm. The MVA debate is one of many events, so make sure you bookmark it in the program if you plan to attend!
